Recreational Marijuana

Arizona’s Adult Use Marijuana Act, officially known as Proposition 207, was passed by voters in November 2020, legalizing the recreational use of marijuana for adults aged 21 and older. Under the act, individuals may possess up to one ounce of marijuana, with no more than five grams being in concentrate form, and cultivate up to six plants at their residence, with a maximum of 12 plants per household. The law also established a regulatory framework for the sale and taxation of marijuana through licensed dispensaries, with revenue allocated to public services such as education, public health, and infrastructure. While recreational use is legal, public consumption remains prohibited, and strict penalties exist for violations such as underage use, exceeding possession limits, or driving under the influence. The act also includes provisions for expunging certain marijuana-related convictions, reflecting a shift toward restorative justice.
